Charlottesville Regional Chamber launches new web site

Posted by lbanner on March 5, 2009

The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce has a new, “enhanced” website — A nice update — They are now working with ChamberXpress. The last time the Chamber’s site changed was in 2000 in partnership with Weblink International. Two columns of data, “Latest news” and a “Calendar of Events,” dominate the home-page. The business/member directory lists businesses alphabetically by category and is also searchable by “member,” “category,” and “contact.” It’s all very blue.

Chamber to host annual Business Expo at JPJ Oct. 29th

Posted by lbanner on October 24, 2008

I imagine Chamber President Timothy Hulbert is pleased. This year he and the Chamber fulfill a longtime dream with the hosting of a Business Expo large enough to hold at UVa’s John Paul Jones Arena. The 2008 Chamber Business Expo, to be held on Wednesday, October 29 from 1:30 – 7 PM, has near 90 businesses participating this year. That’s +20 from last year and year’s prior. This year’s Business Expo also features a Chamber Workshop entitled “Navigating Difficult Conversations,” presented by Rachel Brozenske, Vice President, Allison Partners, a Chamber Network Luncheon, and a Business After Hours.

To learn more about how you can get involved or to register for any of the day’s events, visit the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce web site or call 434.295.3141.

Innovation Council and Chamber of Commerce establish affiliation

Posted by lbanner on October 9, 2008

And then there was one.

One year ago the former Virginia Piedmont Technology Council (VPTC) combined with the former Charlottesville Venture Group (CVG) to form the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC), their mission to be “the preeminent private-sector advocate and catalyst for entrepreneurship and technology-based economic development in our region.” I believe the year has seen a number of event successes for the CBIC, not the least of which, their annual Innovation Awards Dinner. But the “slowing economy” has had its affect on area business associations, and as of today, what I had dared to suggest last year, has come to pass, The Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC) and the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce (CRCC) today announced that their respective organizations have signed an agreement to jointly support the entrepreneurial and high-tech business community in an innovative affiliation.

A news release from the Chamber explains that, “CBIC will retain its independent, separate organizational status with independent governance in affiliated membership with, and under operational management by, the Chamber.” Essentially, the CBIC will remain as an organization, but operate solely as a volunteer-led and run group, receiving operational, administrative, and management support, on a fee-for-service basis, from the Chamber of Commerce. The two organizations will also share event comunication and management.

From the release, Gary F. Henry, CBIC Acting Chairman who serves on the Board of Directors for both organizations, says, “The Chamber’s offer to assist CBIC by assuming these functions on a fee-for-service basis was both timely and very well received. I feel strongly that this affiliation brings greater value to both organizations and to individual CBIC and Chamber members.”
