Kurt Burkhart of Carlsbad, California selected as Director of CACVB

The City of Charlottesville reports that the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) has selected Kurt Burkhart as its new Executive Director. He will assume responsibilities on January 6, 2009. Mr. Burkhart will report to an eleven person Board of Directors made up of community stakeholders including the University of Virginia, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. (Monticello), the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, the City of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle. He will oversee the operations of the CACVB Visitor Center, which houses six part-time and four full-time staff persons.

For nearly eight years, Mr. Burkhart has led tourism efforts in Carlsbad, California, a coastal destination located 30 miles north of San Diego. Prior to his years served as Executive Director of the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau, he held a similar position with the City of Flagstaff where he promoted travel to this northern Arizona city and to the Grand Canyon.

Mr. Burkhart replaces Mark Shore who left the position in March of this year.
