Daily Progress part-owned by “Scariest Man in Media?”

C-note was a little slow in picking up Portfolio, the new national business magazine that was launched last month. When we did, we were pleased to find a Charlottesville connection. Bruce Sherman, CEO of Private Capital Management, is profiled in a piece called “The Paper Shredder,” and stories are told about how he forced the sale of newspaper group Knight-Ridder and is an agitated major investor in the New York Times Company. Not mentioned is that PCM also owns about 11 % (or $98 million worth) of Media General, the Richmond-based group that owns the Progress. (Sherman is also cousin of TV’s “Judge Judy.”)
